4 Tbsp butter, unsalted1 cup milk
2 large eggs3 1/2 cups sugar, divided
2 tsp vanilla extract3 1/2 cups flour
3 tsp baking powder4 cups water
1 1/2 quarts blackberries (fresh or frozen), thaw if frozen 

TIP: Try to make the dumplings equal in size by using the same sized spoon when you drop the dumplings.
Yield will be dependant on the size of the dumplings.

Melt butter and allow to cool. Mix together with milk, eggs, 1 cup of the sugar and vanilla. Add dry ingredients. Do not overmix.
Combine water, remaining sugar and berries. Cook over medium heat until mixture thickens. Drop dough by tablespoonfuls into the berry mixture.
Cook until dough rises. Test with fork. When it comes out clean, remove dumpling and continue adding dumplings until all dough is used.
Serve warm with blackberry mixture.
